We’re always thinking about Lego storage ideas. I’ve been thinking we need a real Lego travel case – an upgrade from the Ziploc bags we typically bring along! I’m really happy with how this turned out. My 6 year old brings it in the car, to restaurants, on trips – it’s great!
Making the Lego Travel Case
- 10×10 Lego base plate (here’s an affiliate link)
- scissors (we used garden scissors)
- plastic case – we used the IKEA Glis small storage box
- Krazy glue
- X-Acto knife
We saw the Glis storage box at IKEA – I love it because all the shorter partitions come up, so depending on what parts you want to bring along, you can change the configuration.
To put the baseplate onto the case, I trimmed it to fit. I wasn’t sure how to cut it and keep a smooth edge. My husband suggested just cutting it with scissors – and that worked! He cut the plate, and then used the X-Acto knife to go over the edges to smooth them down. Then put the Krazy glue onto the back of the base plate, and place it on the top of the case. We pressed for about 30 seconds, and it was stuck tight! We let it dry overnight.
That’s it! the whole thing took about 5 minutes, and cost about $10!
