Tape Shapes Game

Tape shapes are a fun way to actively practice shapes! This game is one of my favorites because I had planned to set it up one way, and then my toddler started playing it another way. and I liked his way better!

Make A Tape Shape Game

  • Tape (masking or painter’s)
  • Paper
  • the floor!

Either cut out or draw shapes on the paper. Outline several large shapes on the floor using masking or painter’s tape. I like to make the shapes big enough for the kids to jump in.

We placed tape shapes for several of each of 5 basic shapes – squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and ovals. The round shapes are harder to do with tape – I just sort of bent it the best I could!

The kids can match the paper shape to the tape shape! Another favorite thing we do when there are big shapes on the ground is to walk the shapes.

There are so many variations on this game! Have your child pull a shape card, and then run to that shape. Or you can hold up a card and then they can run to the matching tape shape! You can also check out some of our favorite ways to practice shapes!
