Sensory Nature Walk

We decided to play around with our senses while exploring a local park last weekend. Well, four of our senses at least. I tried to keep taste to a minimum.

We felt the rough bark, soft grass, squishy mud, coarse dirt, and cool water.

We looked at a delicate spider web, the leaves on branches, the pattern of water ripples after a splash.

We listened to the sound of the tiny waterfall, the rustling branches, and sticks scraping the dirt.

We breathed deeply, and inhaled the sweet smelling air.

Our usual trips to the park can really best be characterized as extremely rowdy. The rhythm of this visit was different; our pace was slower as we paused to consider the sensory impact of nature.  It was a simple idea, but by concentrating on what our senses were telling us, the boys experienced the park in a whole different way.
