Take Your Kids on an “Earth Walk”

One day last month, on our way to preschool, my son said, “Mommy, I want to help the Earth.” I told him that was a great thought, and he took it one step further, “Mommy, I want to take a bag for recycling and a bag for trash, and pick stuff up.” He called this his “Earth Walk.”

After school that day, we went for our first “Earth Walk.” We attached one bag to each side of the baby’s stroller and walked through our neighborhood. One for recycling and one for trash. We each wore gloves, and as we picked up the litter, we discussed where we should place each item.

We have continued these walks. We frequently bring bags with us now on our walks to the grocery store, which is great because we can deposit both the trash and recycling there…and wash our hands afterwards! This is a nice a way of helping our community be a little cleaner.
